Why An Ebook Reader
When Sony released the first ebook reader many people wondered why and what the fuss was about. What people didn’t realise then and still don’t is that it was an extremely revolutionary piece of equipment on a par with the development of the iPad. The difference is that an ipad or tablet is just a computer under a different guise. The ebook reader is just that, an ebook reader. It’s not a computer, it’s not a tablet and it’s definitely not a place mat.
So, what makes the ebook reader so special? Well, unless you read books voraciously then you will have no idea. By the way, when I say books I mean novels with 600+ pages, things that hurt your feet when you drop them. Of course there are the smaller novelettes etc. but I would consider them to be a distraction and not something that actually stretches your mind.
The first thing that strikes anyone when they first see an ebook reader is the e-ink screen. The background tends to be a slightly grey color and the ink is just black. In fact it’s more like a newspaper because most books are printed on bleached paper. Just smell a new book next time if you don’t believe me. Anyway the result is that it is much easier on the eye than say a computer screen or tablet if you want to read for longer periods.
There are a couple of things to take into consideration if you have decided that you want an ebook reader but I would like to leave the most important for future articles. One thing I will say here is there is no such thing as a color reader yet. Color e-ink is under development but anything that is touted as a color ebook reader is in fact a tablet, period.
Feel free to browse through the various reviews and if you have any questions or comments I would love to hear from you.
If you are wondering about me, I bought a Sony PRS505 when they first came out and it is still going strong. They are still available through Amazon but don’t seem to have reduced in price.
